I’m A Messy Human.

I’m a flawed adult. Completely and utterly flawed.

I’ve judged people too quickly and been too judgemental. I’ve hurt people. I’ve lied. I’ve been hypocritical. I’ve criticized and offended people. I’ve been too stuck in my own belief systems to even consider other viewpoints. I’ve tried to change people. I’ve been selfish. I’ve been inconsiderate. I’ve been unempathetic and insensitive. I’ve mindlessly interacted with content on Instagram that could honestly get me ‘cancelled’ at some point (I’ve got a terrible sense of humour). And on top of that, I’ve been so ignorant about the world. I was and still am a messy human being. Just like you. Just like everyone else.

I’ve got my fair share of faults and have done many things I’m not proud of, but one thing I’ve acknowledged is that no one’s perfect. People are messy. They will disappoint you and hurt you. You will also do things that you’ll regret, but that’s life. Humans are messy creatures, and we’re constantly learning and evolving. There’s no point in dwelling on a past mistake that the past version of you made, and you should have the same mindset about the people in your life as well.

This is why I hate ‘cancel culture’. It completely disregards the human experience and expects people to be perfect and well-behaved 100% of the time. It leaves zero room for mistakes, and when a mistake is made, it’s weaponized against them for years. We forget that everyone is human, and humans make mistakes. Mistakes shouldn’t be attached to our identities unless we repeatedly make those mistakes and are unwilling to learn from them.

Everybody is redeemable, including yourself.

How?

Through actions.

If you’ve done something you regret, take the steps to rectify it. Prove that you’re not the kind of person who will make that mistake and not learn from it. Take accountability and change.

You can’t control the past, but you can control the future to the best of your ability.

Past mistakes don’t define you, they create you. They either build you into a shitty person or an evolved one. You get to decide which one you want to be.
